Our adult class currently runs 2 nights a week.  Within these classes are taught:

* Okinawan karate punches, kicks, blocks and stances (footwork)

* Okinawan kata (formal conservative exercises utilizing the above against imagined opponents - similar to shadow boxing)

* Okinawan weapons training incl. Bo and Sai.
* Self defense / proper fighting technique using the karate techniques listed above as well as                                     techniques from other styles.
* Sparring - Implementing control, precision and timing you will learn to navigate around your opponent, adjust to their actions and utilize strategy to reign victory over them.

​There's a few different reasons why people start training in the martial arts. Maybe you just want to improve your health?  We've got you covered. Every class starts with a 30 minute calisthenics/strength conditioning workout.  This, combined with the rigourous training of your traditional karate training, and you'll get all the workout you could want.

While we do cover self defense training regularly in most classes, Wednesday night consists of our Assault Survival Training class, or A.S.T.   This can also be thought of as Self-defense.  This is fine, but it's important to understand that you will not only learn to defend yourself, but you will also learn how to become a fighter.  A fighter for survival - the only case in which fighting is acceptable. When the situation is potentially deadly or has escalated to the point of permanent life changing violence against you, you must at that moment become a fighter with extreme offensive skills in order to stop them.  Most attackers only speak one language: pain.  For example:  Defense against a bullet, we'll say a shield of some sort, does not stop the person firing the gun - it only stops the bullet, or a strike from harming the otherwise victim.  Unless the victim deploys their own offensive attack, those violent advancements will continue.  So to think of Self-defense in the most literal sense of the term, as "defense", can be unsafe in more dire situations.  More info on the Combat Survival Training class can be found
